Kitchen and master suite remodels are among the most popular updates, and some of the best investments on your home you can make. In kitchens updating appliances can go a long way, but consider adding an island, second sink, granite countertops, or pantry for a modern update. Often simply re-facing the cabinets and replacing some tile will make the kitchen seem brand new. In their master suite, homeowners will enjoy having a room to relax that is a warm, organized retreat. The space may be there already or can be built by simply bumping into a guest closet or to under the eve outside the room.
Expand your closet with an organization system
Update your master bath with quality finishes and a whirlpool, sit down shower, or dual sinks.
Add a fireplace and sitting area
Build in bookshelves and a hidden flat screen TV.
Another great way to approach remodeling your home is to do a general update. To update the home, increase the appeal, value, and the livability you may want to add some hardwood floors in select areas replace or refinish the doors or windows with raised panel and thermal versions, ensure all the hardware in the home matches in finish, and replace or refinish paint, carpet and vinyl, cabinet doors and any worn materials or appliances. Completing a relatively inexpensive update on homes every 15-20 years will help keep the home:
Less expensive to operate
More attractive for resale
Higher in value
Free of molds, mildews, and trapped dirt
Easier to maintain
Four Season rooms are also great updates, but often these updates are sold prefabricated and do not match the finish of the home, therefore they are valued at less than constructing an actual addition with large windows and skylights. For a very similar price an addition with continuous windows that matches the homes exterior and interior can be built and the wall opened up to appear as if the room was original. This can add a multi use area, breakfast space, or living room for home that needs just a little more space or light.
Decks are always a good idea. You should have your deck inspected every two to five years depending on its age, as older decks that were not built for permanence can quickly become a hazard. A quality deck will fastened with bolts and screws, will often have a decorative iron or glass railing, and will have solid cedar or composite walking surface. Built in benches in the railing can add seating for entertaining with a patio set for normal use. Built in whirlpools, gas fire places, and plumbed in natural gas grills will help make the deck enjoyable and eliminate the need to run for grilling propane.
